String Muting
Palm Muting
Palm muting is about controlling how much you let strings ring out. Tight control produces a toneless thud, while loose control lets the strings ring out until they stop vibrating.
This technique is at the heart of rock. It's how you generate that choppy guitar style in time with the beat.
Used in these songs
The strings are muted by resting the heel of your hand on the bridge and sliding it forward to place partial weight on the strings.
